The Carmelite Friars of Manjummel Province is running the school from 2020 onwards. His vision was to facilitate education to those who have no access to the great educational Institutions. It is situated in a picturesque location, flanked by the Vembanadu Lake on the East, Vallarpadam Railway Bridge on the North in the heart of the Cochin city. The place is serene, calm and beautiful. It is free from the dust, din and noise of the city. The nature has endowed the school with exquisite charm and beauty.
AAPS vision and mission is to give the children a second home where they grow naturally and beautifully. The family Spirit is the uniqueness of the school. It tries to nurture the child physically, intellectually, spiritually focusing on the integral development of the child. AAPS mission is to bring up caring, committed and confident youngsters who are finetuned to human and spiritual values. AAPS dreams of each child when they conquer the world in love and service and thus they become a global citizen making their own unique history and contribute to the development of the society.
St. Pius X Manjummel Province of the Discalced Carmelites has a century and a half history of its own. Its origin goes back to 1857, when Fr.FrancisKuruppachery with two of his companions began a community at Koonanmmavu, sanctioned by the Vicar Apostolic of Verapoly, Rt. Rev.Dr. Bernadine Baccinelli. This independent and indigenous Carmelite Religious Congregation, known as the Tertiaries of the Discalced Carmelite Order(TOCD), was a modest spiritual movement of the Latin Catholics of Malabar.
7 After 17 years of unsteady existence, a community was formed at Manjummel, where a Monastery dedicated to our Lady of the Immaculate Conception was built, by Rt. Rev. Dr. Leonardo Mellano, the Archbishop of Verapoly. The congregation grew gradually in Koonamavu, Ernakulam, perumpadappu, Podanur(TN), Pius Nagar(Munnar) Alwaye and continue to grow. At present we have our presence in Europe, America, Africa, Indonesia and Australia. We are also present in Orissa, Delhi, Mumbai and Andrapadesh and Madya Pradesh. We beautifully cherish our missionary zeal and continue to do the mission in kerela.
Our contributions in the field of social ministry and education are manifold. It was Bernardine Baccinally, the great Italian Carmelite Bishop who pioneered the institutional system of primary education accessible to all in Kerela by his Pastoral Decree of 1856, ordering for the establishment of schools attached to every church in every parish and village (Pallikkoru Pallikoodam). Carmelites thus started the reform of education in kerela. In the field of education, the contribution of the Manjummel province is noteworthy. It has various schools adjacent to the monasteries: Guardian Angels’ Schools Complex (LP, UP School, CBSE School, Higher Secondary School) at Manjummel, Infant Jesus’ High School at Varapuzha, St. Pius X LP-UP School at Pius Nagar, St. Antony’s LP-UP School at Perumpadappu, St. Terese’s CBSE School at Gwalior, St.Kornelius Higher Secondary School at Kolayad, Steinmont Public School at Arayangad and Archbishop Attipetty Public School(CBSE) at Pachalam.
